Akagera National Park is a low-lying savannah reserve in the east of Rwanda on the border with Tanzania. Known as one of the most scenic savannahs in East Africa, the game drive in Akagera provides you with the opportunity to view gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. It has a good selection of game and bird life.

Visitors can encounter lions, rhinos, leopard, hippopotanmous  buffalo, elephant, antelope, zebra, giraffe, baboons, monkeys, an incredible 490 bird species, plus much more.

Highlights at Akagera National Park

GAME SAFARIS

You will be able to experience a classic African Safari at Akagera National Park. Exploring the parks wide diversity of animals: lions, leopards, rhinoceros elephants, and Cape buffalos, in an open 4×4 vehicle. This is a safari experience unlike any of Rwanda’s neighbors and is a must-see for everyone.

NIGHT GAME SAFARIS

As most big predators hunt at night, the night game safari is another way to experience Akagera National Park. Not only having the chance to see the big game predators in action, you will be amazed by the sounds of the park at night. You will have an experience like no other.

BIRDING SAFARIS

Rwanda has over 700 species of birds including the Red-Faced Barbet, Shoebill stork, Bennett’s Woodpecker, Papyrus Gonolek and the Miombo Wren-Warblers. Rwanda’s location in the Albertine Rift makes for an ideal and stunning landscape for bird enthusiasts.

BOATING SAFARIS

A boat excursion on Lake Ihema, which will take you to the island that is inhabitant to several species of birds. Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentrations of water birds, while the connecting marshes are the haunt of the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork – the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds. After your boat excursion you will continue with game drive and have picnic lunches.

 SPORT FISHING

Fishing is done from the shores of Lake Shakani. Your clients can either keep their catch, or throw it back. The two main species caught in Lake Shakani are catfish and tilapia. Fishing tours do not require advanced booking, and they can be paid for at the reception upon arrival. There are also quarterly fishing competitions.

DAY 1

The arrival of your flight at Kigali International Airport, meet and Greet assistance. You will be handed over to and warmly welcomed by our Uber Luxe Safaris representative outside customs and immigration hall. Transfer to your hotel. Have a briefing about your safari in the lobby.

You will be assisted with check-in followed by dinner at the main restaurant.

DAY 2

Kigali & Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will check out and proceed on a morning city tour of Kigali that includes the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and Inema arts centre.

Rwanda’s capital and biggest city stretches across undulating lush hills surrounded by towering mountains, the largest of which is Mount Kigali, rising 1850 metres above sea level. Kigali is the country’s financial, commercial and cultural hub, served by an international airport and featuring a wide range of accommodation options, restaurants and points of interest, including the Kigali Genocide Centre, an atmospheric market and numerous craft shops. With its interesting architecture, busy streets, meandering boulevards, and green hillsides, Kigali is said to be one of the most attractive cities in Africa and is definitely worth a visit.

Lunch in Kigali, after lunch transfer to Kigali international you will be transferred by helicopter to Akagera national park, Arrive at Magashi Camp, assisted in check-in. The evening is at leisure.

DAY 3

Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will have a morning game drive and later, return to the lodge for your lunch, brief rest. After lunch proceed to do a sunset boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Explore the area in an open 4×4 vehicle with each vehicle able to accommodate a maximum of seven guests, allowing each individual an outside seat. Magashi offers boating in eight-seater swamp cruisers. This is an excellent way to view the water birds and many other aquatic animals seen around Lake Rwanyakazinga.

DAY 4

Akagera National Park

On this day you will go for a game drive, birding, guided walks, and later a night game drive.

Akagera is renowned as one of the best birding areas in the world with more than 500 species recorded at the park. Year-round walking safaris are offered in limited areas, weather permitting. Magashi is in the only private access area in Akagera so exclusive night game drives in open 4×4 vehicles are offered.

DAY 5

Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast and depending with your outbound flight you will exit the park and shuttle  back to Kigali and later transfer to Kigali International Airport.
